Hello.
A few weeks ago i did a pole on my twitter page
to decide where i would go to film some video's for my various social media channels. The winner was the beautiful Dent station on the Settle & Carlisle line.
I started my day catching the 0626 (1Y54) Northern service from Ulverston to Carnforth where i hopped across to platform 2 to catch the 0700 (2Y54) service from Carnforth to Gargrave. At Gargrave i quickly popped to the local co-op to get a bacon butty for breakfast. After this i went and got the 0830 (2H12) Northern service from Gargrave to Dent.
So after arriving at Dent and filming the required videos. After this i decided to take the walk to Ribblehead. The walk was slightly more challenging than i had first anticipated. This been said i plowed straight into the walk, firstly heading up Great Knoutberry Hill before heading down towards the Artengill Beck. When i got to the cross paths i decided to head over Wold Fell and drop down on to Newby Head Gate Road where i followed to Dent Viaduct.
At this point i was planning on videoing the Network Rail Maintenance HST. Unfortunately i had no mobile signal so was unable to notice it was running 30mins early so i just managed to get a quick shot as it passed over the viaduct.
Anyway... Back to my walk, i followed the road as far as Bridge End Cottage, I then turned left and followed the footpath towards the mouth of the Dent Tunnel. I then proceeded to climb to the right of the tunnel and up onto Blea Moor. When I reached the first air shaft, I stopped to take a video and photos of a northern unit heading towards Dent viaduct.
After a break for a drink and snack i descended over the moor to Blea Moor signal box and onto Ribblehead viaduct. Overall a very tiring walk, but very worth while to enjoy the scenery and piece and quiet.
My journey home started with the 1614 (2H93) service from Ribblehead to Skipton. At Skipton i popped to Morrisons to get a hot meal, before heading back to the station to get the 1808 (2H21) service to Carnforth where i connected with the 1922 (1C54) service to Ulverston.
Below is a rough route i took. I really recommend this walk, but probably for the more experienced walker.
Until my next adventure, which is likely to be Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th April all been well. Planning on heading to do the Newcastle to Carlisle line over these two days.
I'll say bye for now and speak to you soon.
Bye
Stuart :-)
